COVID update

Little Steps

The increased COVID infection rate nationally, driven largely by the new OMICRON variant but with the DELTA variant still very much in evidence, has resulted in the RYA updating its guidance to clubs. This guidance reflects that issued by central government earlier in the week in their efforts to stem the tide of infections, short of returning to full lockdown measures. The summary of the current position published by the RYA yesterday, is as follows:

There are no restrictions on how many people can take part in boating activity

All forms of boating activity can take place

All facilities can open there are no indoor capacity limits

Organised events can take place outdoors with no capacity caps for participants or spectators

As before, the context in which these freedoms are permitted is underpinned by stringent advice that individuals, organisations, and workplaces should continue to take such precautions as are necessary to keep people safe

We all face a very challenging period over the forthcoming weeks and, whilst the impact on our club is minimal, it is clearly important that we respect the efforts made nationally to help contain the epidemic and keep our members safe.

In response to these developments please take careful note of the following:

i) Social distancing is vital and members are urged to take sensible precautions in this respect

ii) Basic hygiene measures ( washing hands, use of sanitiser etc ) must be adhered to

iii) Ventilation is key, make sure that all doors and windows are kept open

iv) Bar and lounge members are free from the requirement to wear masks inside the lounge and outside on the balcony. However, face masks must be worn when approaching the bar and galley to order and collect drinks and food moving to other parts of the clubhouse ( eg changing rooms, toilets, stairways etc)

v) The bar, galley and race box continue to be designated as COVOID secure locations, with access restricted to those assigned to work or perform duties at those locations.

vi) Whilst changing rooms and shower areas remain open, members are advised to avoid using them wherever possible

vii) Face masks are not required in the boat park

With regarding test and trace the guidance gives discretion to clubs as to the use the governments QR code. Given the limited time left in the season we are not going to do so, but members are asked to make contact with a member of the committee if, having attended the club, you, or your family or friends, experience COVID symptoms.

As a club we have come a long way since the beginning of the pandemic and, by taking little steps, have managed to continue to enjoy the sport we love, in all its dimensions. By respecting the above measures we can help keep members, and the local community, safe from the ravages of COVID.

Thank you for your continued support and remember
