PB Helm and Tractor Training
For Patrol Boat helms, those wanting to step up to PB Helm (dry suits please) plus tractor driving on the shore with trailers.
As the season gets underway, it's time for some refresher sessions at the club for duties afloat or on the beach for racing or training events.
Aligning with Club policy, all members wanting to take the role of a PB Helm is obliged to take part in a refresher safety training session at the club, before being signed off as a helm.
Saturday (March 14th) is an informal, interactive session that will cover all aspects of PB operation, from pre-launch boat checks, safety equipment, leaving the boat park, personal safety equipment, launch procedures, communications with the Race Officer and Beach Master, launching, race support, recovery of the boats, tractor ops, use of the VHF radios, wash down and stowage of the boats and more.
This is a great chance for people polish their skills, to share experience and knowledge, to streamline operations, to reduce damage to the patrol boats and to increase the overall safety of our club. It's also the best way to observe racing and training.from the water.
Due to the early spring weather, only PB Helms that are suitably kitted out for cold water ops will be going out on the water (dry suits please), while other training of Tractor, towing and VHF will be covered ashore.
There is another session planned for the 25th of April (when it's a little bit warmer!).
We welcome all current and budding helms and crew to take part, and remind that, going forward, helming duties can only be assigned to those who have been signed off by the Safety Team.
Please book on either the PB Helm training or the tractor operations training on the website.
