Sails Up, Smiles On: Bug Week 2025 at Its Best

Published 22:37 on 28 Jul 2025

Bug Week 2025 at Worthing Sailing Club was nothing short of spectacular, and if the whispers around the boat park are to be believed, it might just have been the best Bug Week yet!

With 31 enthusiastic young sailors, supported by 5 brilliant Assistant Instructors (AIs), 4 dedicated Dinghy Instructors (DIs), and a whole crew of passionate parents, the club was alive with energy, laughter, and the unmistakable sound of sails catching the wind.

The week delivered five full days of glorious sailing, giving every child the chance to grow in confidence and skill. From first tacks to final races, the progress was phenomenal. Nine children sailed solo for the very first time, a huge milestone, especially for those who only joined training this year. Their courage and determination were nothing short of inspiring.

Midweek brought the thrill of a long-distance sail, and the final day saw some fantastic racing, where the competitive spirit was matched only by the post sail hot-dogs. By the end of the week, we had tired but very happy children, proud of their achievements and already dreaming of their next adventure on the water.

A huge round of applause to all our brilliant Bug Cup racers!

Special shoutout to our top finishers:

  • Barney and Marigold in 3rd place
  • Theo V in 2nd
  • And clinching 1st place by just one point Joey!

Special shout-outs go to Jerry, who was absolutely fabulous throughout, bringing energy, expertise, and endless encouragement. Tina kept both children and parents well-fed and smiling, serving up delicious food with the help of a top-notch kitchen crew. Meanwhile, DI Ruby brought her signature charisma and style, leading and inspiring young minds on their sailing journeys with warmth, wisdom, and a spark that lit up the whole week.

A very special thank you goes to Liz and Andy, without whom this week simply wouldn't have happened. Their planning, passion, dedication, and patience are the backbone of our youth training programme. Thanks to them, Worthing Sailing Club continues to offer outstanding opportunities for young sailors to thrive.

The sense of community throughout the week was truly heartwarming. Everyone pitched in, supported one another, and celebrated each success, big or small. It's this spirit that makes Bug Week so special - and this year, it reached new heights.

Bug Week 2025 will be a hard act to follow!
